SEN teaching assistant roles and responsibilities

SEN teaching assistants play a crucial role in supporting students with diverse special needs including autism, learning disabilities, sensory impairments and speech & language difficulties. They provide tailored support to meet the unique needs of each student, helping them to develop essential life skills and reach their full potential.

As an SEN teaching assistant, your primary responsibilities include providing one-on-one or small group support to students with various learning challenges, assisting them in accessing the curriculum, and adapting teaching materials to meet their individual needs. You’ll also collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement tailored learning plans, monitor student progress, and provide feedback to support ongoing development.

Beyond academic support, SEN teaching assistants also offer emotional and behavioural support and help create an inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered to succeed.
