Romford, London
£80 - £96 per day
Primary School
Full Time

A reputable primary school in Romford is seeking experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants to join their committed team. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with a genuine passion for supporting children with diverse learning needs to make a significant impact in an inclusive and nurturing educational environment.

Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored support to children with a variety of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Down Syndrome, and other learning difficulties. Your primary focus will be on helping these pupils achieve their full potential by fostering a supportive and engaging learning experience that caters to their unique needs.

Key Responsibilities:

One-to-One and Group Support: You will work closely with pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, depending on their specific needs. This involves assisting with academic work, supporting classroom activities, and aiding in their social and emotional development.

Implementing EHC Plans: You will collaborate with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and class teachers to develop and implement Education Health Care Plans (IEPs) for each pupil. This includes setting achievable targets, monitoring progress, and adapting support strategies to ensure continuous improvement.

Classroom Assistance: You will assist the classroom teacher in creating an inclusive learning environment where all pupils feel valued and supported. This may involve adapting lesson plans, preparing differentiated learning materials, and ensuring that pupils with SEN can fully participate in classroom activities.

Behaviour Management: You will support the implementation of positive behaviour management strategies to assist pupils with behavioural challenges. This may include using de-escalation techniques, providing positive reinforcement, and helping pupils develop coping strategies for managing their emotions.

Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication is vital in this role. You will regularly liaise with teachers, SENCOs, parents, and other professionals to ensure that all parties are informed about the pupil’s progress and any changes in their support needs. You will also contribute to meetings and discussions about the best approaches for supporting each child.

Monitoring Progress: You will keep detailed records of each pupil’s progress, observing and documenting their achievements, challenges, and areas where additional support is needed. Your insights will be invaluable in shaping their ongoing support and ensuring that they are reaching their full potential.

Promoting Independence: A key aim of your role will be to help pupils develop the skills they need to become more independent learners. This may involve teaching them strategies for organising their work, managing their time, and building their confidence in their abilities.

Creating a Safe and Inclusive Environment: You will help to foster a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and supportive. This includes ensuring that pupils with SEN feel secure, respected, and valued, and that they have access to the resources they need to succeed.

Qualifications and Skills:
The ideal candidate for this role will have a background in supporting children or adults with special educational needs.

Empathy and Patience: You must have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by children with SEN and be able to approach your work with empathy, patience, and a positive attitude.

Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will be working closely with a range of stakeholders, including pupils, teachers, parents, and external professionals.

Commitment to Inclusive Education: A strong belief in the importance of inclusive education and a commitment to helping all pupils achieve their potential is essential for this role.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a supportive and forward-thinking primary school that is committed to providing high-quality education to all pupils. As an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, you will have the chance to further develop your skills, work with a dedicated team of professionals, and make a real difference in the lives of children with special educational needs.

If you are passionate about supporting children with SEN and are looking for a challenging and rewarding role in education, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity in Stratford.
