Special Needs Assistant – Special Needs College (South West London)

Location: South West London
Contract Type: Fixed-term (1 year)
Start Date: September 2025
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 4:30pm
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Are you a dedicated and compassionate professional with a passion for supporting adults with special educational needs? We are seeking an experienced Classroom Assistant to join our dynamic and supportive team at a number of out specialist colleges across South / South West London.

About the Role: Special Needs Assistant
This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a further education setting, supporting learners aged 18+ with a range of complex needs, including:

○ Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
○ Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
○ Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)

You will play a vital role in helping our learners achieve their full potential by supporting them in the classroom and during college activities. Some students are wheelchair users and the role includes elements of personal care, including assistance with feeding, toileting, and mobility.

Key Responsibilities: Special Needs Assistant

* Provide tailored support to individual learners in line with their education and care plans
* Assist with classroom activities, communication, and sensory-based learning
* Support learners during transitions, breaks, and outings
* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff
* Promote independence, wellbeing, and inclusion at all times

Requirements: Special Needs Assistant

* Essential: Previous experience supporting adults with special educational needs in a college, school, or care setting
* Understanding of the needs associated with autism, SLD, and PMLD
* Comfortable and experienced in providing personal care
* Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with learners and colleagues
* A calm, patient, and proactive approach
