Key Responsibilities:
* Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with specific educational needs, following their individual education plan (IEP) and behavioral targets.
* Assist the pupil in accessing the curriculum, adapting activities and tasks as needed to suit their learning style.
* Support the pupil’s emotional and social development, using positive behavior strategies to help them build confidence and social skills.
* Help foster a safe and inclusive environment within the classroom and on school grounds.
* Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, and other support staff to implement strategies and monitor progress.
* Communicate regularly with the pupil’s family and external support professionals, sharing updates on achievements and areas for further support.
* Encourage independence and self-management skills, gradually enabling the pupil to participate more independently in school activities.
Ideal Candidate:
* Previous experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly in a primary or early childhood setting, is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of common SEN strategies, including sensory support, communication tools, and behavior management techniques.
* A compassionate, patient approach, with excellent communication skills to effectively support a young child.
* Ability to build strong, positive relationships with pupils, families, and staff.
* Flexibility, adaptability, and a solution-focused mindset to meet the pupil’s changing needs.
* A genuine commitment to inclusive education and to promoting the pupil’s success within the mainstream classroom.
